Sneddon Will Miss UVM Trip

CHN Staff Report

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Vermont coach Kevin Sneddon will miss this weekend's trip to Alaska-Anchorage, staying in Burlington to be with his wife as she expects their first child.

The due date is late October, but Sneddon decided that the long return trip from Anchorage would make it impossible to get to Burlington in time in case of an emergency.

"(My wife Toni) was trying to kick me out the door, she felt so bad," said Sneddon to the Burlington (Vt.) Free Press. "But I think she would be extremely worried and concerned that if something did start, she'd be here by herself."

Sneddon said he'd discussed the possibility with captain Jaime Sifers as far back as Tuesday, and that members of the Vermont athletic department encouraged him to stay home.

Assistant coaches John Micheletto and Damian DiGiulian will handle the coaching duties.

"We laid out the plan for the entire weekend for responsibilities," Sneddon said to the Free Press. "I'm very blessed to have great assistants. We've built a team that doesn't rely on just one person making all the decisions. We rely on the captains and we rely on each coach. Those guys always have a ton of responsibility."

Vermont is home next weekend, then plays at Niagara on Oct. 28-29.
