Trotter Lost For Season

CHN Staff Report

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Brock Trotter, a highly-touted freshman who had been leading Denver in scoring this season, will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a major injury Friday.

Early in the first period of the Pioneers' loss to North Dakota, Trotter was forechecking the puck when he was hit hard — and clean — by 6-foot-5 defenseman Matt Smaby. As he hit him, Trotter's leg was whipped around, and Smaby's skate caught the tendon in Trotter's Achilles heal.

The skate wound up completely tearing the tendon. Trotter required two hours of surgery following the game.

The 5-9, 170-pound Trotter, who hails from Brandon, Manitoba, was leading the team with five points in four games prior to Friday.

Trotter will not be able to resume skating until next summer. He could be eligible for a medical redshirt that would restore four full years of eligibility.
