Elliott, Kessel Named Players of the Month

CHN Staff Report

Wisconsin goalie Brian Elliott and Minnesota forward Phil Kessel were named the Player and Rookie of the Month, respectively, by CSTV and the Hockey Commissioners Association.

Elliott has led Wisconsin to a 12-game unbeaten streak (10-0-2). He has not allowed more than two goals in a game this season. Playing every minute of Wisconsin's 14 games, Elliott is 11-1-2 with a 1.41 goals against average and .942 save percentage.

In eight games played during November, Kessel led the No. 4-ranked Golden Gophers to a 4-1-3 record while topping the team in scoring with six goals, 10 assists and 16 points, power-play goals with five, and shots on goal with 44.

A 6-foot-0, 190-pound freshman center, Kessel is projected to be one of the top picks in next year¹s NHL Entry Draft. He was twice named WCHA Rookie of the Week during November and currently leads all rookies in the nation in both scoring with 8-13—21 and points-per-game average at 1.50. He notched five multiple-point games during November, had a point in seven of eight games, averaged two points per game, and three times scored the first goal of a game.
