McKee Next to Go
CHN Staff Report
Cornell goaltender David McKee, a 2005 Hobey Baker Award finalist, has decided to forgo his senior season and sign a free-agent contract with the NHL's Anaheim Mighty Ducks, according to TSN of Canada.
McKee started every game for Cornell this season, 35, compiling a 2.08 goals against average and .910 save percentage.
In fact, McKee started all 102 Cornell games in his three seasons in Ithaca, setting a school record for consecutive starts. He was recruited to the Big Red late in the summer of 2003, after David LeNeveu signed with Phoenix that August.
The handwriting was on the wall for this move when Cornell re-recruited Troy Davenport from the USHL recently. Davenport played nine minutes behind McKee last season, then left the program over lack of playing time. He recently announced his decision to return to Cornell next fall.
According to the report, McKee was sought after by four other NHL teams.
McKee had a 27-5-3 record, 1.24 goals against average and .947 save percentage last season in being one of the top three finishers for the Hobey. Cornell lost in overtime in the regional final in each of the last two seasons.
