Boyle Sitting Tight

CHN Staff Report

After the NCAA championship game last weekend, CHN reported that Brian Boyle was leaning towards staying at Boston College. Now, the Patriot Ledger has reported that Boyle, the 6-foot-7 Boston College junior and a former first-round NHL Draft pick, has officially rejected an offer from the Los Angeles Kings to leave school.

"The Kings were very interested in signing Brian and having him in their training camp next season," Paul Krepelka, Boyle's family adviser, told the newspaper. "But Brian felt he wanted to return to BC and be with his teammates."

Los Angeles selected Boyle No. 26 overall in the 2003 draft. According to the Patriot Ledger, Boyle was offered a three-year deal and asked to leave immediately to join the Kings' AHL affiliate in Manchester, N.H.

It is still conceivable that Boyle could leave before the start of next season.

With the decision, Boyle turns down a larger signing bonus than he will be eligible for next summer. The current "transitional" Collective Bargaining Agreement the NHL is operating under allows for a 30 percent signing bonus, while the new one that kicks in next season will only allow for 10 percent.

Boyle will also have the option of becoming a free agent on Aug. 15, 2007, if he doesn't sign with L.A. by then.

Boyle scored 22 goals and 52 points in 42 games this season. Boston College lost the NCAA title game to Wisconsin, 2-1, last Saturday.
