Sneddon Signs Contract Extension

CHN Staff Report

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Vermont coach Kevin Sneddon has agreed to a contract extension through the 2010-11 season. The extension supercedes Sneddon's previous contract, which was to expire at the end of the 2006-07 season. Sneddon's salary for the 2006-07 season will be $135,000.

"Kevin has provided our men's hockey program with exceptional vision and leadership and has established Vermont as among the nation's best," athletic director Bob Corran said. "He is one of the finest coaches in the country and we are thrilled that he will be behind our bench for the next five years."

Sneddon praised the school's leadership for the opportunity he received three years ago, and for putting the tools in place to help him.

"I look forward to working with our entire staff as well as our outstanding student-athletes as we continue to strive for sustained excellence," Sneddon said.

A 1992 graduate of Harvard, Sneddon is 48-50-14 in his first three years at Vermont. Last season, Sneddon led UVM to an 18-14-6 record in its first year in Hockey East. The Catamounts stormed out to a school record 7-0 start to the season, and went on to claim both the Nye Frontier Classic and Sheraton/TD Banknorth Catamount Cup titles. During the month of December, Vermont was ranked as high as third in the country in both national polls, giving the Catamounts their highest ranking in a decade.

In 2004-05 Sneddon led Vermont to its first 20-win season in eight years. With a 21-14-4 record, Vermont was also the nation’s most improved team that season. That year Vermont was picked to finish 10th in the ECAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Instead, under Sneddon's leadership, the Catamounts finished fourth in the conference and were ranked as high as 10th in the country.
