Badgers' Williams Bolts for OHL
CHN Staff Report
MADISON, Wis. Nigel Williams, a second round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in last June's NHL Draft, has withdrawn from Wisconsin and is leaving the team to play in the Ontario Hockey League.
Williams, said to be have been highly frustrated with a lack of playing time, will sign with Saginaw (Mich.) of the OHL, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
"He was not a happy young man," UW coach Mike Eaves told the WSJ in Thursday's editions. "Hockey is very important to him. It's what makes him tick and feeds his self-esteem and all those important issues as an 18-year- old. He just felt right now this is what he had to do."
Williams played in just one of the first 10 games for the Badgers this season. The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder was still developing the necessary skills to play at this level, according to Eaves.
Last year, Wisconsin lost promising sophomore Matt Auffrey to the OHL at a similar time.
"(Williams) kind of wants to play now instead of being patient and growing," Eaves told the newspaper.
