Toews Among 3 Collegians Selected to Canadian Junior Camp

CHN Staff Report

North Dakota sophomore Jonathan Toews, who played on last year's gold-medal-winning team, was one of three college players selected by Hockey Canada to attend the National Junior Selection Camp.

The other college players invited were Boston College junior Dan Bertram and Michigan sophomore Andrew Cogliano.

Those that make the team will play in the World Junior Championships, scheduled for the end of this month in Sweden. The evaluation camp will take place Dec. 10-15 in Calgary.

Toews, though not scoring at the pace of his exciting freshman season, is one of 11 returning players that were invited. He has four goals and 12 points this season, after scoring 22 goals last season.

Bertram has also been a disappointment; after scoring nine and 10 goals his first two seasons, he has just two in 13 games so far this year and is a minus-1.

Cogliano, meanwhile, has 12 goals this season, matching his total already from a year ago.

Canada will announce its World Junior team after the selection camp.

The United States will announce its World Junior team on Tuesday, during the intermissions of a nationally-televised NHL game on the Versus network.
