Curry Big Winner in Hockey East

BOSTON — Players and coaches from seven of the league's 10 teams won Hockey East awards, it was announced today. Boston University senior John Curry was the big winner, taking Player of the Year, Goaltending and Itech "Three Star" awards.

Curry outdistanced Boston College's Brian Boyle, the league's Scoring Champion (13-24—37) to take
Player of the Year honors. Curry finished with a 1.85 goals against average.

Boston College senior Joe Rooney was named Best Defensive Forward award. BU's Sean Sullivan was the unanimous winner of the Best Defensive Defenseman award.

Maine freshman Teddy Purcell narrowly edged Northeastern goaltender Brad Thiessen for Rookie of the Year honors. Maine's Mike Lundin won the Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award, while Massachusetts took the Charlie Holt Team Sportsmanship Award.

Coach of the Year was New Hampshire's Dick Umile, winning the award named after his predecessor, Bob Kullen.
