Flyers Nab Greentree, Too

CHN Staff Report

PHILADELPHIA — On the day the Philadelphia Flyers gave former Minnesota Gopher and team general manager Paul Holmgren a two-year contract extension, Holmgren was busy plucking away college players.

Earlier, the Flyers signed Bowling Green's Jonathan Matsumoto, and then they added another CCHA prospect, Alaska's Kyle Greentree.

(Complete current early-departure list)

Greentree, 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, forgoes his final year of college eligibility. Unlike Matsumoto, Greentree was a free agent.

Greentree was the Nanooks' leading scorer this season as a junior, with 21 goals and 42 points while playing in all 39 of his team's games. On the down side, Greentree did not score in his last seven games, including in four playoff games.

This was a breakout year, however, for the Victoria, B.C., native. He had just 20 goals total in his first two seasons with Alaska.
