2006-07 Record: 15-17-5 (12-12-4 CCHA)

Key Losses: Sean Collins, Mathieu Beaudoin, Kenny Bernard, Dave Barton, Tyler Strachan, Bryce Anderson, Matt Waddell.

Last season, John Markell summarized the first half of the season as "the team was getting young." Some of the key factors in the struggling first half was the limited goaltending experience in Joe Palmer, who was thrown in right away. The team didn't do as badly, as the Buckeyes went 8-10-4 which included the capturing of the Ohio Hockey Classic in December.

In the second half Markell said, "The young guys played more with injuries to the upperclassmen." The team went 7-9-1 from January through March including a tough three-game series loss to Northern Michigan.

This year, although the captains have not been named yet, Markell said that, "We need to develop leadership from the playoffs and give that person an opportunity to lead the team."

Whoever the captains are for 2007-08, they will have to step up their leadership roles this year to help out the freshmen. In fact nine freshmen are coming in this year.

"Our numbers are up," said Markell about the class of 2011. "There will be more competition, more opportunities to play and we filled a lot of holes."

This season the Buckeyes won't have as many question marks as last year.

"I think it is going to be exciting," said Markell. "I am excited to see players healthy, we have a large senior class, we are making strides in the right direction and I think the league will be very interesting this season."

With the a CCHA top four spot a tough task, the Buckeyes can look for home ice in the first round.
