In 2005-06, Bentley made it to the Atlantic Hockey Final. The next year's results, a bit disappointing. The team could not find a true identity as the Falcons struggled to a 12-22-1 mark.
"I was a little disappointed, however we were a bit young," said Bentley coach Ryan Soderquist.
The final two months of the season was what got to Bentley — a record of 2-8 in the last 10 games.
This year, Bentley will have a lot more experience as the Falcons only lose two seniors. But some questions need to be answered if Bentley wants to get back to form, such as the goaltending situation.
"Jason Kearney played some last year," Soderquist said. "We also have an incoming freshman in Joe Calvi that could get some ice time."
As far as Calvi and the class of 2011 goes, the numbers are moderate. Six newcomers (and a seventh if you add redshirt freshman Justin Kemmerer) will look to make contributions to a large group of upperclassmen.
"I was pretty happy with the results," Soderquist said about his class. "We added needs in all areas."
With 19 lettermen returning in 2007-08 Bentley will once again be experienced.
"Our goal is to get back home ice," Soderquist said. "Our other goal is to stay consistent and to play great at home."
Going into this year, this Bentley team will be hard to predict. Some might say the Falcons will give fits to the opposing team with their experience. While others could be saying that this team is too inconsistent.
Right now expect Bentley to be near the bottom of the league. However, Bentley could sneak into the top-tier of Atlantic Hockey.
