Big Ten Network to Air 13 Games
CHN Staff Report
CHICAGO The Big Ten Network will televise 13 men's ice hockey games this winter, featuring Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin.
"There is a deep passion for college hockey in Big Ten country and a long-standing tradition of success," network president Mark Silverman said. "We look forward to capturing that passion and bringing the very best of college hockey to a national audience."
Minnesota will make five Big Ten Network appearances during the 2007-08 campaign. Michigan and Wisconsin will each appear four times, Michigan State is scheduled for three contests and Ohio State two.
The network will have a live telecast on nine consecutive Fridays in January and February beginning with Wisconsin and Colorado College on Jan. 4.
Although the conference does not sponsor ice hockey, Big Ten member schools have combined to win four of the last six NCAA Championships and 22 titles throughout history. Four different Big Ten schools have won national championships in the last decade including Michigan State's 2007 title.
The Big Ten Network is currently available in nearly 30 million homes through distribution agreements with DIRECTV,
DISH Network, AT&T U-Verse and more than 140 cable operators. The Big Ten Network is a joint venture between subsidiaries of the Big Ten Conference and Fox Cable Networks.
