WCHA Suspends Patrosso

CHN Staff Report

MADISON, Wis. — The WCHA announced Saturday that senior forward Derek Patrosso of Colorado College was suspended for one game as the result of a checking-from-behind incident that occurred in a game against Minnesota-Duluth on Friday.

The supplemental disciplinary action was taken by WCHA Supervisor of Officials Greg Shepherd after a review of the incident that occurred at 3:35 of the third period. The play resulted in Patrosso receiving a major penalty for checking from behind and a 10-minute game misconduct.

Patrosso served the suspension during Colorado College's game against Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday.

Hockey East handed out a one-game suspension to Boston College's Nathan Gerbe for Saturday night. The league cited an accumulation of incidents that it didn't specify.

Earlier in the season, the CCHA suspended Bowling Green's Kai Kantola for a checking-from-behind incident.

Until this recent trend, it has been rare in college hockey history that a conference would hand out supplemental discipline that wasn't already dealt with during the game, or as the result of automatic suspensions as specified by the rule book.
