BU Foursome Suspended Indefinitely

CHN Staff Report

Boston University captain Brian McGuirk and junior forward Brandon Yip are among four players who have been suspended indefinitely by head coach Jack Parker for violating unspecified team rules.

Seniors Bryan Ewing and Dan McGoff are the other suspended players.

"I'm disappointed that these four chose to break one of our team rules," said Parker in a statement. "This is strictly a team matter."

Senior Pete MacArthur will assume captain's duties in McGuirk's absence.

McGuirk, along with senior forward Ryan Weston and sophomore defenseman Eric Gryba, were all benched last Saturday for the back end of a home-and-home with Boston College. Friday, the struggling Terriers were "embarrassed," according to Parker, losing 6-2 to their rivals.

Saturday's game was a 4-3 home loss to BC, dropping the Terriers to 4-9-2 on the season.

Parker is expected to discuss the suspensions in more detail today.

McGuirk, 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, is an eight-round NHL Draft pick of Columbus in 2004. He has two goals this season, and eight in four seasons with the Terriers.

Yip, also an eighth-round pick in 2004, by Colorado, has five goals this season. Bryan Ewing has been a bright spot for BU, leading the team with six goals, 17 points, and a plus-six rating.

Sucks to BU!!!

They apparently can't catch a break, who would have thought Northeastern would be the Boston powerhouse this year. And with one senior it looks like they will lead the pack for the next couple of years. Maybe I should be a Husky fan now!

This article's fourth paragraph is incorrect. The top line for BU all season has consisted of Ewing, MacArthur and Chris Higgins, not Yip. Yip plays on the second line.

Correct. That's been fixed. Thank you.

All that talent, and they can't play like a team. Apparently this team building exercise was conducted off-ice resulting in 4 suspensions. Don't look now, but the Huskies are favored to win the "BU Invitational." Parker is too good a coach to be disrespected like that...sit them down for the rest of the season Jack !!

I realize this commentary is way late to be relevent. But it's not, anyhow! I'm just reflecting back to BU's last NationalChamp team. I was working for the BU SID, even though attending Northeastern U. BU had a captain Jacques Joubert from South Bend, IN. I had started my college career 9 1/2 years prior at Notre Dame, and it was just such poetic justice for me to experience BU NationalChamp in my final quarter in school. It's tragic, really, hgow the Ice Dogs have gone from that near-perfect team to the present team and its discipline problems. But such is life...
