CC Loses Lampl, Patrosso
Leading Scorer Rau Also Out One Game
CHN Staff Report
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Colorado College forward Cody Lampl will miss at least the rest of the season, and forward Derek Patrosso will sit until the WCHA playoffs under school-imposed suspensions.
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, the two players were suspended because of "student conduct."
Lampl's suspension goes until January 2009, pending an appeal he says he's filing. Patrosso's suspension is for the upcoming academic block, which ends March 12, 2008.
Already, missing Billy Sweatt, who is playing for Team USA at the World Junior tournament, three other CC players may be out this weekend, according to the Gazette. CC will play in the Lightning College Hockey Classic in Tampa, Fla., starting Saturday.
Junior center Chad Rau, the Tigers' leading scorer with 10 goals and 19 points, was given a one-game suspension by coach Scott Owens for violating a team rule. He will return Sunday. Also, defenseman Kris Fredheim and forward Eric Walsky suffered right arm injuries and left Wednesday's practice for X-rays. Their status is unknown.
Lampl, 21, a junior, has played in 13 of the team's 16 games this season, scoring one goal and three points.
The senior Patrosso, 23, has battled injuries the last two years. In 11 games this season, he has four goals and seven points.
With all the Holiday games coming up, couldnt Lampl, Patrosso and Rau steer clear of trouble? When my husband and I went to CC from '49 to "54, an NCAA championship was won with the likes of Carl Lawrence, Bud Eastwood, Andy Gambucchi and all the others with the fans in mind to enjoy the win with all the players.....I hope the players realize that.....Mrs. George J. Bad pennies always turn up. Both players are huge under-achievers, especially for being scholarship players. More upsetting is that CC knew these players weren't good actors BEFORE they got to the 'Springs. Patrosso was traded once in junior for off-ice incidents, and Lampl was traded twice because of his transgressions off-ice. CC reaps what it has sown by not holding firm on the character issue.
