NCAA Tournament Times and TV Schedule

CHN Staff Report

All NCAA tournament games will be televised exclusively by ESPN and its sister stations this season, unless the games conflict and cannot be carried live.

If I don't subscribe to ESPNU will I still get to watch the games on that channel.
Mar 23 2008, 7:15 pm by hockey fan nd

Your cable or satellite provider needs to already be carrying the channel.
Mar 23 2008, 7:31 pm by CHN Editor

Fsn will cary gophers ,ssn should carry und
Mar 23 2008, 10:45 pm by Lake,ND

Mar 24 2008, 7:30 am by Lake,ND

The regionals are all on ESPNU???? Stupid.
Mar 24 2008, 9:23 am by Chris Haake, Grand Forks ND

What the heck is ESPN360? Is it s/a ESPNHD?
Mar 24 2008, 9:30 am by J. Sawyer, Gorham, ME

You need to have your cable company already carry ESPNU to get the games. On top of that, many cable companies offer ESPNU on a "sports tier" so you need to subscribe to the sports tier (usually ESPNU, CSTV, Fox College Sprts, etc...) to be able to watch the games.
Mar 24 2008, 1:20 pm by Deejer, Big Lake, MN

Many people in New England have Comcast as their cable company, and thus don't get ESPNU. It isn't even part of the sports pack. The two sides have not been able to come to an agreement for some time now. I don't expect this conflict to get resolved anytime soon, so if you want ESPNU and you live in a town serviced by Comcast, your only option is the dish.
Mar 24 2008, 2:07 pm by Mike Machnik, CHN

The Midwest and Notheast regions sure get screwed on first round coverage. Why did they change the way games are being produced if every game can't be shown live? Let the regional sports nets (i.e. FSN) take care of the first two rounds. I mean ESPN must be making money showing the Frozen Four on it's pair of networks, so why the need for games on ESPNU? ESPNU probably shown in as many homes as NFL Network if I had to guess,
Mar 24 2008, 5:06 pm by Ryan, Shakopee

ESPN360 is watching the game online through ESPN.com. ESPN must have an agreement with your internet provider in order to see these games.
Mar 24 2008, 5:09 pm by Ryan, Shakopee

It is all money! Don't you know that? Competition and sporting values have gone down the sewer. It is not the same as when I was younger. Grab the money and run.
Mar 24 2008, 6:37 pm by

I guess I'm stupid
Mar 24 2008, 7:40 pm by Lake,ND

who cares I'll be at the games in madison!!!!
Mar 24 2008, 7:43 pm by Lake,ND

Read the NCAA TV page closely. All games that officially tape delayed on ESPNU (4 of them) are being made available for local syndicaton to regional sports networks or local stations for live broadcast in the local markets, and those 4 games will also be available nationally on Dish or Direct TV via the local syndication outlet. The 'live' game games scheduled ESPNU will only be seen on ESPNU. This way, every NCAA game will be on the dish live somewhere...

Mar 25 2008, 8:09 am by Lake,ND

This is absolutley ridiculous, I have been watching College Hockey all year and now and I cannot watch the best weekend of sports
Mar 25 2008, 8:49 am by fan Boston

thankfully at least first game will be on WMUR, but doesnt help those without dish for next game, espn 2 should have it all
Mar 25 2008, 12:09 pm by fan, Derry NH

Just checked with CN8 via an e-mail to their sports programming dept. and got a quick response; they are not going with any Regional games at all. Told me that ESPN holds the broadcasting rights to all of the games. So thanks WMUR for picking up the UNH - ND game Friday night. If UNH wins then I'm sure WMUR will also p/up the West Regional Final @ 10 PM on Sat. 3/29. Other than the BC - Minn. game on Ch. 38 WSBK in Boston on Sat. night we in New England are "up the creek" as the of these games are NOT televised unless you have ESPNU and Comcast doesn't even offer it. What a country! I'm sure even NIT hoop is carried live on free tv. All these games should be on ESPN or have ESPNU show it free this weekend and hype it up w/ consumers to bug your cable provider to get it in their community.
Mar 25 2008, 1:16 pm by Charlie in N.H.

Some of the regional nets are picking up the games which is great to see, but why to customers have to suffer by paying a college sports tax to see these games? There's already plenty of networks out there. I mean why can't these games be on at least ESPN Classic which airs little live programing, hince the name?
Mar 25 2008, 3:17 pm by Ryan, Shakopee, MN

It all comes down to one thing, the Benjamins and Greed. I just read on USCHO that an NCAA rep. says this ESPNU thing is good for hockey in that 20 million homes will be able to see it, 20 million? what about the rest of us? Let me get this straight; rabid fans follow and watch games all season long, have supported their teams, pay their cable bills that are sky high and go to the campus arenas and just when we get ready for one of the best weekends D1 college hockey can offer. We have tv's version of "Jaba the Hut" ESPNU hogging everything for themselves and not letting any other cable providers show these games to the vast majority of college hockey fans in the U.S. I wonder why we put up with this crap from the NCAA. I'll bet mens' lacrosse finals will be live on ESPN later this spring. College Hockey will never take three steps forward when you have individuals allowing this to happen because they don't give a rats you know what.
Mar 25 2008, 3:45 pm by Charlie in N.H.

Yeah, I have Cablevision and no ESPNU/CSTV (nor can I get ESPN360). Why wouldn't they show all the games live on the multitude of channels most people already get? What else do they have to show? Poker? ESPN blows, and I wish more people would realize this. Everyone just assumes they're the "Worldwide leader"--why? Just because they call themselves that? They have become an unwatchable mess. At some point they turned into a self-promoting entertainment network, and stopped being a sports network. Screw them.
Mar 26 2008, 12:02 pm by Jeff in New City, NY

We in Grand Forks are also screwed. Thankfully, we'll be able to see the Sioux and Gopher Saturday games, thanks to FSNN, but not the Sunday games, which neither FSSN nor FSNN could negotiate. Nor could we get ESPNU even if we wanted to, because MIDCO cable doesn't have it (as is true of many cable systems). Thanks, ESPN...you're a bunch of dicks.
Mar 26 2008, 12:13 pm by Chris Haake, Grand Forks ND

Jeff in New City, NY is right on... ESPN is owned by Disney who also owns the ABC television network. As far as I'm concerned Mickey Mouse or one of his brothers is running the show at ESPN and again the ultimate loser is the fan.
Mar 26 2008, 12:45 pm by Charlie in N.H.

Hey, never mind spygate! We need Senator Arlen Specter from Pa. to get on these big sports networks and cable companies and get ESPNU on so we can watch these games! Comcast is based in Philadelphia which is part of the senators home state. Just a thought...
Mar 26 2008, 4:47 pm by Charlie in N.H.

Charlie -- I won't be holding my breath. BTW, my understanding is that a large part of the contention between ESPNU and Comcast is that Comcast wants it to be part of the sports pack and ESPN does not. Remember that Comcast has recently bought a number of the Fox Sports Net stations around the country and this gives them a stake in some of the Fox College Sports programming. The latter stations are part of the sports pack. In other words, as I mentioned before, this stalemate isn't anywhere close to resolution. And I don't think you can lay the blame on only one side here, i.e. most people seem to want to blame ESPN. Comcast is clearly also trying to protect its own interests at the expense of the customers.
Mar 26 2008, 5:12 pm by Mike Machnik, CHN

I think that the college hockey broadcasts are unfair!! People can watch College Basketball on almost any channel. Who cares about basketball? I would love to see college hockey on ABC or CBS for once. Those kids work hard and deserve the same recognition as the basketball.
Mar 26 2008, 5:28 pm by Denver U fan, Brasher Falls, NY

Who wants to watch a taped delayed college hockey game when you already know the score??!! Its like watching the Super Bowl after you know who won. College hockey fans deserve to watch the games when played on the same channels they already paid for.
Mar 26 2008, 5:36 pm by Hockey rules, Winthrop, NY

Mike M., the blame goes to all sides, Comcast included. But I do not see why ESPNU shouldn't be part of the sports pack. I have it here at my house and I watch all 3 FCS channels, CSTV now CBSCS, Speedchannel and the NHL Network. I know Comcast bought the old FSN New England channel too but that is on the same grouping as ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Classic. My frustration, as well as many others, is that these big companies don't care about the tv viewing fan, that if only 20 million get ESPNU for this weekends Regionals that's ok with them. And it doesn't seem to bother the NCAA either. I do have tickets to the NE Regional and will enjoy myself at these 3 games even though my favorite team, UNH, won't be there. College hockey is a great sport and the fans support it all season long as I had mentioned in an earlier comment the other day. It is just sad that these same fans are held hostage by big companies that really only care about the benjamins.
Mar 26 2008, 8:44 pm by Charlie in N.H.

I have been saying for years that ESPN is horrible and is all about money. I religiously DON'T watch ESPN anymore due to their ****, I can get my sports news elsewhere!! I understand it's a business, but I can't believe that women's college basketball and ping pong (seems like some of the crap they air) could have better ratings than COLLEGE HOCKEY!! The NCAA, another $$$-grubbing organization, doesn't help matters any; there needs to be better contracts written up with better TV stations. I'm very excited that WMUR will at least pick up Fridays UNH game, but after I get home from Worcester on Saturday, it woulda been great to watch the final in the West Regional.
Mar 27 2008, 12:52 pm by JJ - Lowell, MA

Sorry, I didn't think I used an objectionable word there!!
Mar 27 2008, 1:05 pm by JJ - Lowell, MA

For all you people in North Dakota-There is a thing called Direct TV, Dish Network. Last time I checked that these were available in the whole US. So stop balming ESPN and if you were true hockey fans, then you would find a way to watch them rather than complain about not be able to get the games on TV. Typical sioux fans.
Mar 28 2008, 7:45 am by

Dear anonymous moron: I, like many, don't feel like paying for a Dish just to watch a few hockey games a year. Does that make financial sense to you? If it does, you're too stupid to actually follow hockey, so you should probably watch something a little simpler like children's kickball or ****fighting. Also, is it just Sioux fans/North Dakotans who are complaining about this predicament? Please ask your tutor to work with you on your reading skills. You sound like a frustrated fan of a Minnesota school that didn't get into the tournament...or someone who rides to middle school on the short bus. Have a great day, and remember to color inside the lines.
Mar 28 2008, 11:58 am by Chris Haake, Grand Forks ND

Huh...I see I, too, in advertently used an objectionable word. Well, for those who are wondering, it rymes with "dock" and means a male chicken. (I really did this for our good friend Anonymous Moron, because I can't imagine he would have been able to figure it out by himself, the poor thing.)
Mar 28 2008, 12:01 pm by Chris Haake, Grand Forks ND

Just a side note; I was just sitting on the edge of my seat last night watching ESPN2. They had this cliffhanger of a game on... hello snoozeville DIV. II Hoops - Augusta - something vs. Alaska-Anchorage. That's right folks, (nothing against these fine DII players ), but placing Div. I College Hockey playoffs on ESPN2, NEVER!!!
Mar 28 2008, 12:29 pm by Charlie in N.H.

Hey Chris from ND, you calling me moron? You are the moron and and why don't you just call me what you think. You are on here all the time and you are always complaining about something. I think that putting the games on ESPNU is great. What channel did you want the games on? FSSN? Really you are just pissed because they put the games on a channel that actually makes sense. So shut up and if you really cared about you stupid team, then you would spend the money to watch them. You are a idiot.
Mar 31 2008, 6:14 am by

Dear Anonymous Moron: well, you certainly put me in my place, didn't you? I mean, with all the witty, insightful, intelligent arguments you make, like "you are the moron" and "I think that putting the games on ESPNU is great," how could I argue with that? I suppose the very fact that you say ESPNU is "a channel that actually makes sense" makes it true. (My seven-year-old sometimes believes things like that, too.) I mean, arguments like that are simply irrefutable! My stars, you must have spent most of your free time on Sunday drafting and rewriting such a retort. I bet you even wrote it in pretty colors with crayon! But I have to wonder: do the people you watch hockey with get tired of you constantly asking them to explain what just happened?
Mar 31 2008, 12:22 pm by Chris Haake, Grand Forks ND

Well... watched UNH lay several eggs vs. ND in Colo. Thanks to WMUR Ch.9 for picking up the feed and allowing us fans to watch. Went to the NE Regional in Worcester, when I saw the pairings last week I thought this Regional was going to be bad. I was pleasantly surprised in that these 3 games were some of the best, exciting, entertaining Regional hockey I have seen in a long time. All 3 games were right down to the wire, up & down hockey with alot of hitting. My hats off to BC, Miami, Minn. & AF for putting on a great show! For the NCAA... for future Regionals; give us more updates on other Regional scores, I really don't care that the DIII Tennis Championships are coming up in Lewiston, Maine in May or the Elite Eight scores for both men & women hoops. THIS IS A HOCKEY TOURNEY!!!!! Also have a feed of other games on the tv's in the lobbies at each arena so fans can watch other Regionals while get a dog & coke. They had hoops on instead.
Mar 31 2008, 1:16 pm by Charlie in N.H.

Hey folks, on the name calling, let's take it easy, okay. Charlie -- agreed on the Northeast, it was some good hockey to see. Good point that more scores would have been nice (although Sunday, it was the only game underway anyway until near the end when Wisc-NoDak had begun). On the tvs and other games, I don't think the arena even had ESPNU. We didn't see any other games on the tvs in the press room either all weekend. Overall, I thought Holy Cross did a fine job as hosts, in its first year after many times when BU had hosted in Worcester.
Mar 31 2008, 2:30 pm by Mike Machnik, CHN

Mike, I agree with you in that Holy Cross did a fine job hosting the Regional. If the school isn't in the Regional itself they tend to be invisible as the host; job well done! As for showing the other Regionals in the arena, I think they could have, the had advertisements in the building on Charter cable Co. and their 3 part bundle deal. So if Worcester has Charter Cable and the DCU Center has it then they could have shown the other games, especially on Saturday. All in all a great weekend of hockey. NCAA, ESPN and the cable co's need to get this ironed out for next year. This sport needs good tv coverage to grow and develop new fans and to keep current fans engaged during the most exciting time of the season for Div. I College Hockey. For all of you at CHN, keep up the great work, the site is excellent and I know most if not all of you do this for nothing but the love of game. Peace to all, enjoy the FF and go Eagles.
Mar 31 2008, 4:18 pm by Charlie in N.H.

Chris- I know alot about hockey and don't judge people if you know nothing about them. By the way, what is a retort?
Mar 31 2008, 4:23 pm by

Charlie -- they didn't have ESPNU in the press room (I tried all the channels), so that leads me to believe for whatever reason, they didn't have it anywhere else in the arena either.
Mar 31 2008, 11:26 pm by Mike Machnik, CHN

I have been reading this garbage for the last week and yes it is to bad that all the games were not available so please stop the crying , I take it that the people on this site are actual couch potatoes and nerds that never played an organized sport in their life let alone D1 hockey so go back your tv's and start painitng your face you ****ing GEEKS, go jerk off because I know none of you can get laid without paying for it
Apr 1 2008, 10:06 pm by STUD- BOSTON

Good morning Stud, isn't it refreshing to hear from an individual who has the brain power of a flea. I am not a couch potato, I have played organized sports in my high school days and enjoy a wonderfull life with my wife thank you. As for the crude comments you made at the end of your well versed paragraph, that's probably you performing in the cave you call home in Boston. Grow up.
