Convention News Slim; Hockey East Coaches Approve Replay
News Otherwise Scant From Annual Gathering In Naples
CHN Staff Report
News from the annual coaches convention in Naples was slim this year, with no resolution still over the fate of College Hockey America.
Otherwise, coaches just hashed out their ideas for potential rule changes, which will ultimately be voted upon by the Rules Committee when it convenes in June. Among those possibilities are changes to the overtime dynamics to reduce or eliminate ties, at least for conference play, and changes to the rules governing kicking the puck into the net.
In the mean time, there was movement in Hockey East on the replay rule, which was approved unanimously by the league's 10 coaches. Assuming it is approved by league athletic directors, it will cost each school $16,000 to implement for equipment, and get the league in line with the CCHA and WCHA.
As for overtimes, there appears to be sentiment towards doing something to reduce ties, though many coaches are also OK with the status quo. If ties are eliminated or reduced, through a shootout, extended OT, or some other method, it appears clear that it would only effect league standings and that the games would still be considered ties for NCAA purposes and for purposes of calculating the Pairwise.

Coaches also discussed the possibility that college hockey will mandate two referee and two linesmen across the board. Other changes discussed included icing being called even during a penalty kill.
Don't see anything about the HE also saying that they were interested in calling their games like the NHL...
