McEachern Goes to Lowell

CHN Staff Report

LOWELL, Mass. — Shawn McEachern, who left as Northeastern's assistant coach last month saying he wanted to spend more time with his family, has joined the staff at Massachusetts-Lowell.

McEachern, a former NHL and Boston University star, becomes the team's chief recruiter, according to the Lowell Sun. He replaces another former BU forward, Ken Rausch, who had been head coach Blaise MacDonald's long-time assistant before being let go recently.

McEachern, 39, played at BU through 1991, then left for the Olympics. When he returned, he started a 14-year NHL career, playing for Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Boston, Ottawa, and Atlanta before retiring in 2006. He scored 256 goals and 579 points in 911 NHL games.

The first sentence in this blurb should be a pretty clear statement about what is going on at NU. Cronin's got issues. Then again, so does does Blais. Let's just hope he doesn't go drinking his face off and driving around town this offseason. Personally, I always thought that NU's slight upswing was a result of the arrival of McEachern.

That comment about sinking and driving would almost be funny if it were true. Maybe you should get your story straight before poking fun of someone. Blais is a d1 head coach who are you, some hick who lives for umaine hockey, must have killed you to see that Maine finishd under Lowell, get use to it because Maine's going to be just as bad if not worse for the next several season.

So Blaise McDonald was not arrested for driving drunk in Westford, MA last year? Because I can post the links that report the arrest in the Lowell newspapers if you'd like. I am someone who has never been arrested or driven drunk or put the lives of many people in the community at risk. More than McDonald can say. And that's fine by me.

To set things right, Blaise was arrested in Chelmsford, it's next to Lowell. ULowell has a bright future and McEachern only helps them, going on the road recruiting.

Chelmsford, that's correct. Let's not try to act like this hasn't happened. A myriad of fun facts. 1. blood alcohol level of about three times the legal limit of .08 percent. 2. Four beers and a 750 milliliter bottle of vodka were also found in the vehicle. 3. MacDonald's speech was slurred and he had difficulty standing up. His eyes were red and glassy and his breath smelled of alcohol. 4. There was also fresh damage to the front bumper of his vehicle, which police said looked like it had been struck by a small tree or shrub. 5. MacDonald's failure to perform a series of field sobriety tests. 6. When arresting Officer Timothy Bourque asked MacDonald if he knew where he was, MacDonald answered "Rochester" in a slurred, drawn-out voice. ROCHESTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MacDonald should have been replaced a year ago....not so sure he understands the role compassion played in the decision to keep him on as head coach....I hope McEachern can give UMASS Lowell the excitement they need

I hope you baby's grow up

Grown ups don't drink and drive.
May 30 2008, 1:29 pm by Matty (Maine)

They don't spend all day posting on the internet and live in their parents basement either.
May 30 2008, 1:58 pm by John, Boston

Actually grown ups drink and drive all the time. In fact because so many people drink in this country and since we are reliant on our cars so much a lot of people drink then drive. It's more common then you think not to defend what MacDonald did because what he did was irresponsible. Anyway UMass Lowell is going to be real good next season. A lot of the players have the talent they were just inexperienced after all most of them were freshmen and sophomores. UMaine will be close in the standings with Merrimack College, dead last.

Oh John, you're so funny. Yes, everyone that posts on the internet must live in their mom's basement and post all day long. Everyone except you, of course! HAHAAHAH. You're not one of the mutant UML fans that sits behind their bench, are you? And yes, Maine will finish out of the playoffs yet again along with Merrimack. It's going to be funny to watch. At the end of the day Lowell will be good but not great. They'll still fight for home ice with UVM and others given what BC, BU, and UNH bring back. In regards to the drunk driving comment, anyone who does so is not a real adult and we all know that. It's a childish and selfish act to get into a car inebriated. Having a license and being of legal driving age doesn't make one a grown up or adult. I have no idea how UML didn't fire that despicable clown.

And of course, nobody at Maine has ever done anything wrong, right? Nobody has even gotten in trouble with the law or ever violated any NCAA rules, right? How's that glass house you're living in?
Jun 2 2008, 10:30 pm by

Was there a Maine fan here making fun of McDonald or did I miss something? While we're on the subject of Maine, however, their current coach, while a disaster, is a stand-up guy. And even though Walsh was a despicable, disgusting cheater, I don't think he was a drunk driver unless I missed something. So really, even if there was a Maine fan here blasting Blaise, your post still wouldn't matter. But I did enjoying seeing a brainiac like yourself try to equate cheating/NCAA violations to someone breaking the law/putting lives at risk. That's absolutely brilliant. Now get outside of your mom's basement and enjoy the weather (ohhhhh ho ho ho I'm so clever, you all live in mom's basement!!!!! ha ah ha ha he he he ho ho ho).

This is for all the UMaine fans. "The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round. The wheels on the bus go round and round, all through the town".
Jun 10 2008, 9:37 pm by UMass Lowell is better than lousy Maine

Lowell's a fine city. I get my crack there. GOOD STUFF!!!!!!!
