Foster Set to Return

CHN Staff Report

New Hampshire goaltender Brian Foster, who hurt an ankle in a game against Northeastern on Oct. 31, is set to return to the lineup today.

His status was still in doubt this week, but he was selected as the starter for a rematch with Northeastern in Boston.

In his absence, freshman goaltender Matt DiGirolamo has struggled to a 5.56 goals against average. And the Wildcats have slipped to 4-4-3.

Foster suffered a sprain and bone bruise, but MRIs did not reveal any ligament damage. Still, he has not felt good enough to go. He's been practicing since Tuesday.

Coach Dick Umile said yesterday that he could play this weekend, but might not. New Hampshire has slipped to No. 13 in the polls, while Northeastern is No. 6.

"I don't think we're at a point where there's a real sense of urgency," said Umile on SeacostOnline.com this week, "but guess what. It's getting close."

Other things are working against UNH this weekend: The power play is last in Hockey East, and the Wildcats still have not won a road game.
