ECAC Suspends RPI's Burgdoerfer

ALBANY, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has suspended Rensselaer junior defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer for two games as a result of separate incidents in the Engineers' contests again Colgate and Cornell last weekend.

Burgdoerfer was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for hitting from behind at the 15-minute mark of the third period versus Colgate; and a five-minute major and game disqualification for boarding at the 20-minute mark of the third period versus Cornell. The disqualification penalty automatically carries a one-game suspension as mandated by NCAA ice hockey rules.

As a result, Burgdoerfer is not eligible to compete in the Engineers' next three contests. The suspension, according to the league, was assessed is in accordance with ECAC Hockey Policies and Procedures, and Rule 4, Section 10 of the NCAA Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Rules.
