Bemidji State Leads All-CHA Honors
CHN Staff Report
NIAGARA, N.Y. With only two upperclassmen among the top six players, the College Hockey America coaches have recognized a youthful trend among league teams in selecting the 2009 All-CHA Team. CHA regular season champion Bemidji State led all teams with five selections while Niagara finished right behind with four honorees. Three Robert Morris first-team selections rounded out the honorees.
A pair of sophomores, Robert Morris’ Nathan Longpre and Bemidji State’s Matt Read, are among the three first team forward selections and are joined by RMU senior Chris Margott. Continuing the youth trend were Bemidji State freshman defenseman Brad Hunt and Robert Morris sophomore blueliner Denny Urban at defense. Rounding out the first team at goalie is Niagara senior Juliano Pagliero, who makes his second straight appearance on the CHA first team.
Longpre and Margott were a one-two punch for the Colonials’ offense that saw the duo finish atop the league scoring charts. Margott led the league in point scoring (42) and goals (20). His teammate Longpre was the CHA leader in assists (28) and finished second in points (40). Read’s 30 points were good enough for him to finish tied for fourth in the league and lead Bemidji State in scoring.
Hunt led all CHA blueliners in scoring with 29 points (9g, 20a) with an average of .91 points-per-game that ranked him tied for fifth in the nation. Urban finished right on Hunt’s heels for the top scoring defensemen in the league with a 26-point (3g, 23a) season.
Pagliero followed up his great junior season with another fantastic year, finishing atop the league in save percentage (.923), with a mark that ranks 10th in the nation. The veteran also posted a 2.39 goals against average.
