Bruess Leaves Mankato for Pro Deal

MANKATO, Minn. The Washington Capitals have announced that they have signed Minnesota State junior forward Trevor Bruess to a two-year entry-level contract beginning next season.
The Capitals also said that Bruess has signed an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of this season and will be assigned to the Hershey Bears, their affiliate in the American Hockey League.
Bruess, who signed as an undrafted free agent with Washington, tallied 12 goals with five assists for 17 points in 2008-09. The Minneapolis native, who led MSU in scoring as a sophomore with 9-21--30, finished this season leading the Mavericks with a plus-13 and also led MSU with 50 penalties and 117 penalty minutes.
Bruess, who had 24 goals and 37 points for 61 points in 110 career games with MSU, was plus-38 in his three years with the Mavericks. A two-time recipient of MSU's Hardest Worker Award, Bruess chalked up three power play goals, four shorthanded goals and four game winning goals during his time at MSU and had 273 career penalty minutes rank third on MSU's all-time list.
