PRINCETON, N.J. College Hockey News has named Minnesota forward Jordan Schroeder the CHN Rookie of the Year.
The highly-touted freshman is currently undrafted, and is expected to go high in the first round in the upcoming NHL Draft.
Schroeder was second on the team with 45 points, and led the Gophers with a plus-17 rating. After not getting a goal his first five games, he had two against Minnesota State. He later had a two-goal game against Denver, and finished the season with an eight-game point-scoring streak.
Schroeder impressed right away because of his smart play, patience and ability on faceoffs.
"He has a very low panic level with the puck," Minnesota coach Don Lucia told Hockey's Future earlier this year. "He is not afraid to hold it and hold it and wait for people to get in a position to receive it. When you’re in a position to have a good shot, he’s going to find you."
Schroeder, playing most of the year with Ryan Stoa and Jay Barriball, was national Rookie of the Month in November. He was a member of the U.S. World Junior team last December.
