Three HEA Players in Hobey Hat Trick

CHN Staff Report

All three players announced as this year's Hobey Hat Trick are from Hockey East, including a pair of teammates.

Junior goalie Brad Thiessen from Northeastern was named, along with Boston University senior defenseman Matt Gilroy and BU sophomore forward Colin Wilson.

The 'Hobey Hat Trick' represents the three top vote getters from the voting panel among the 10 finalists that were named last week. The top vote getter is already known, but won't be announced until the Hobey Baker Awards ceremony next Friday evening, at the Frozen Four in Washington, D.C.

Gilroy, who was named CHN Player of the Year and All-CHN First-Team, has 8 goals and 28 assists this season for the Terriers. Wilson, All-CHN Second Team, leads the Terriers with 52 points on 15 goals and 37 assists.

Thiessen, the Hockey East Player of the Year and All-CHN First Team, was 25-12-4 for the Huskies this season, playing every minute of every game. He finished with 2.12 goals against average and .930 save percentage. Northeastern was eliminated last weekend by Cornell in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

BU (33-6-4) qualified for the Frozen Four for the first time in 12 years, and will play in the national semifinals Thursday against Vermont.
