Stalock Signs With San Jose
CHN Staff Report
SAN JOSE, Calif. The San Jose Sharks have signed Minnesota-Duluth goaltender Alex Stalock, the team’s fourth round (112th overall) selection in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Stalock, who just finished his junior season with the Bulldogs, was named a All-America West selection recently. His team lost in the NCAA West Regional final to Miami, after winning the WCHA Final Five championship a week earlier.
This season, the 21-year-old netminder played in 42 games with a 2.13 goals-against-average and a .924 save percentage, setting UMD single-season records in both categories while tying the school record for shutouts (5). Stalock was ranked first in the WCHA in goals-against average and 13th overall among NCAA goaltenders. He was also ranked first in the WCHA in conference save percentage (.914) and seventh in win percentage (.595).
In addition, Stalock established a career high for wins by going 21-13-8, just the seventh time in school history the 20-victory plateau has been eclipsed. He leaves ranking first on the Bulldogs' all-time charts for goals-against average (2.48), save percentage (.910) and shutouts (nine).
In 2007, as a freshman, he was selected to the WCHA All-Rookie Team.
In 2006, Stalock was invited to attend the development camp for the US World Jr. Team at Lake Placid. He was also selected as one of the goaltenders to represent the US in the Viking Cup where he posted a 2-0-0-1 record and earned an assist, leading Team USA to a third place finish.
“Alex has had great success over the last few seasons under the guidance of Head Coach Scott Sandelin and the Minnesota-Duluth hockey program,” said San Jose general manager Doug Wilson. “We welcome Alex to the Sharks organization and look forward to helping him further develop his skills as a professional hockey player.”
