St. Cloud Extends Motzko's Deal

CHN Staff Report

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — St. Cloud State coach Bob Motzko has signed a six-year contract extension — the longest deal ever given to a coach at the school. Motzko will earn over $1 million in the course of the deal, which takes him through 2015.

“This is exciting stuff, no question,” said Motzko to the St. Cloud Times. “With the new rink and the players we’ve got and the good kids coming in, there’s a lot to look forward to.”

SCSU's National Hockey Center will be undergoing expansion in the coming years.

Since taking over the program from Craig Dahl in 2005, the Huskies have been to the NCAAs twice, and Motzko was named WCHA Coach of the Year in his first season, 2005-06. Last season, SCSU finished sixth in the league, going 18-17-3.

“He’s our guy. He’s built on the foundation (Dahl) left behind and I intend to do everything I can to keep him coaching at St. Cloud State until he retires,” SCSU AD Morris Kurtz said to the Times.

I'm glad to hear he'll earn over $1. He's worth every penny.
