Former RPI Goalie Killed in Crash
CHN Staff Report
Nathan Marsters, a goalie at RPI from 2000-04, was killed late Monday night when a deer crashed through the windshield of his pickup truck in Smithville, Ontario.
The 29-year old Marsters was pronounced dead at the scene.
"It was truly a tragic set of circumstances," constable Jacquie Forgeron told the Hamilton Spectator.
Marsters was a fifth-round selection of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He later joined the Anaheim organization as a free agent, though never got into an NHL game.
"He had a real competitive streak in him," said Tom Reale, a classmate of Marsters' at RPI, and a contributor to CHN. "He once confided to me that he loved playing on the road, especially at the buildings where the opposing fans would try to ride him with taunts and jeers. They brought out his competitive will.
"Off the ice, though, Nate Marsters was the gentle giant. Always having a smile and time to chat, Nate made any room he was a part of more interesting for his presence."
