Strait to the Pros

BU Captain-to-Be Signs with Penguins

CHN Staff Report

BOSTON — Boston University defenseman Brian Strait has decided to forego his senior season with the Terriers, and has signed a three-year pro deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins, according to reports. The Penguins drafted Strait in the third round in 2006.

Strait was paired most of last season with Hobey Baker Award winner Matt Gilroy, playing the more defensive role compared to Gilroy's. He helped lead the Terriers to a national championship in April.

The Terriers expect to bring in two standout recruits in the fall to fill the gap, Matt Nicastro and Sean Escobedo.

Strait finished with five goals and 23 points in 111 career games with the Terriers.
