Weslosky Leaves St. Cloud for Bemidji
CHN Staff Report
ST. CLOUD, Minn. St. Cloud State goalie Jase Weslosky, who had run into academic eligibility issues at the school, has decided to transfer to Bemidji State.
The move was made official as classes started at St. Cloud State. Weslosky could have chosen to stay at the school and try to become eligible for the second semester, but the senior chose to transfer instead.
The move leaves Dan Dunn as the only goalie with college experience on the Huskies' roster — though incoming freshman Mike Lee was a third-round pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in last June's NHL Draft.
In 72 career games, Weslosky was 37-27-4 with a 2.43 goals against average and .920 save percentage.
“We were in a great situation in that we already had a lot of very quality depth at that position,” SCSU coach Bob Motzko told the St. Cloud Times. “And there were a lot of scenarios being rumored about as to what was going to happen.
“Dan hadn’t been happy behind Jase and (Dunn) had his worries about going into his upperclassman years about whether he was going to get enough playing time. The reality is Jase played a lot of minutes for us, and those minutes are going to have to be replaced.”
Dunn is 5-6-3 with a .907 save percentage in 18 career games.
Lee was Goalie of the Year in the USHL last season, playing for expansion Fargo, the team coached by now-Nebraska-Omaha coach Dean Blais.
Weslosky had a 2.11 GAA and .931 save percentage two seasons ago, as a sophomore, leading the Huskies to the NCAA tournament, where they lost to Clarkson, 2-1.
