Injuries, Defections Hit CC

CHN Staff Report

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Senior Andreas Vlassopolous, who has battled years of injuries, will undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee soon, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette. Vlassopolous has missed the past four games with pain in his right knee. He's had recurring issues with the knee since his freshman year.

“I’d thought about it for awhile,” he told the paper. “It’s hurt for the last four years.”

Vlassopolous, who had 16 goals in his college career, was hurt in his first game as a Tiger, when he dislocated his right kneecap.

Meanwhile, freshman forward William Rapuzzi and senior forward Dan Quilico were both injured this past weekend. Rapuzzi is expected out up to two weeks, while Quilico could miss a month.

In other CC roster news, freshman goalie Hudson Stremmel has decided to leave the team to play junior hockey in Prince George, B.C.

“It came as a bit of a surprise to us,” Owens told the Gazette.

A native of Reno, Nevada, Stremmel played in the USHL for Chicago before coming to CC. He played one period of an exhibition game, but hasn't gotten into the Tigers' first six regular-season games, partially because he was sick for two weeks.

Instead, fellow freshman Joe Howe has started five of the games, and played well for the 4-1-1 Tigers. Junior Tyler O'Brien got the other start.
