Schroeder Addresses Internet Rumors: 'I'm Staying'

CHN Staff Report

MINNEAPOLIS — Apparently, rampant Internet-fueled speculation of the immediate future of Minnesota forward Jordan Schroeder, prompted the player and the school to issue a release today, asserting that he has no intention of leaving the program.

“I am fully committed to this team and university,” said Schroeder, in an unusual statement. “I have no intention of leaving college early to play pro hockey.”

The statement comes just days after sophomore defenseman Sam Lofquist announced his intention to leave Minnesota, probably to play in major junior.

Schroeder was the CHN Rookie of the Year last season when he scored 13 goals and 45 points, and displayed high hockey acumen for a freshman. This season, however, Schroeder is without a goal and just five assists in eight games, as Minnesota has opened 3-4-1 and been beset by injuries and the loss of Lofquist.

“It is unfortunate that these rumors continue to come out and I have no idea where they begin. I think it’s important for me to publicly state that I am going nowhere. I am dedicated to this team and plan to help us reach our goals for the remainder of this season and future years.”

Schroeder was a first-round draft choice last summer by the Vancouver Canucks.
