Shooting on UAH Campus Postpones Game
CHN Staff Report
Tonight's Alabama-Huntsville game at Niagara has been postponed in the aftermatch of a tragic on-campus shooting back home.
According to a note on the school's web site: "Due to the tragic events that took place on the UAH campus on Friday afternoon, all Athletics events, both home and away, have been suspended through Feb. 19."
Friday afternoon, during a biology department faculty meeting, three teachers were shot and killed, and three others wounded, allegedly by a fellow faculty member.
According to Huntsville police, 45-year old Amy Bishop Anderson was charged with capital murder and arrested Friday as she left the building where the shooting took place. Anderson was a professor and researcher at the university.
The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. local time (5 p.m. ET). UAH and Niagara played Friday night's game, with the Chargers winning, 3-2.
Classes have also been shut down for the week.
UAH is not scheduled to play next Friday. It is hosting Robert Morris on Saturday and Sunday. Those game times were changed from 7:05 p.m. (CT) to 1:05 and 3:05, respectively.
The game that was postponed has now been scheduled to be played Sunday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m., which is when Huntsville is scheduled to be back at Niagara. The teams will play their regularly-scheduled games Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27, at 7 p.m.
