Geoffrion to Miss Weekend Series
CHN Staff Report
Wisconsin senior captain Blake Geoffrion will miss this weekend's series at Michigan Tech because he is still suffering from concussion symptoms.
“He couldn’t exercise without symptoms,” Badgers coach Mike Eaves told the Wisconsin State Journal on Wednesday.
Geoffrion, who leads the Badgers with 21 goals, hasn't practiced all week. He incurred the injury after being hit in a mid-ice collision by St. Cloud State center Aaron Marvin.
The play has garnered a lot of controversy, because it appeared to be a hit to the head, but no penalty was called. Also, Marvin was responsible for knocking North Dakota star Chay Genoway out of a game in November, on a play he was ejected on. Genoway also suffered a concussion and hasn't returned since.
St. Cloud State coach Bob Motzko said that he believes Marvin would be disciplined by the WCHA, but no word of that has happened at this point.
Geoffrion also had a concussion in the first game of the season, and missed one game.
“We have to find somebody to step in and, as a group, fill the role (of Geoffrion),” Eaves told the Journal. “You lose your leading (goal) scorer, your best faceoff guy and a guy who logs a lot of ice time in every situation. We have to go up (and) scrap and battle for everything we get.”
