Michigan-MSU Outdoor Game Sales Paused at 100,000

CHN Staff Report

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The recent Frozen Four in Detroit's Ford Field may have drawn mixed reviews, drawing over 30,000 per game, but the next big outdoor game in college hockey is already assured of attracting the largest crowd ever to watch hockey in person.

So much so, that ticket sales for December's "Big Chill and the Big House" have been frozen at just over 100,000, so that students will have an opportunity to buy them soon.

Michigan's football stadium — "The Big House" — seats well over 100,000, significantly more than the 74,000 at Michigan State's Spartan Stadium. The two long-time rivals set off the modern outdoor game craze with their meeting there in October 2001, setting an attendance record that still stands. It seemed only fitting that the pair would go a step further by meeting in Ann Arbor's football stadium eventually.

Student season ticket packages for football and hockey include a ticket to "The Big Chill at the Big House." Michigan freshmen for the 2010-11 academic year will have an opportunity to purchase season tickets for football and hockey in June. All Michigan students will have the chance to order a hockey season ticket in September.

Orders from football season ticket holders who are renewing their tickets on or before 5 p.m. on Friday, May 14, are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The general public may still request tickets by joining a waiting list. To join this waiting list, you can e-mail (mtickets@umich.edu) or call (734-764-0247 or 866-296-6849) the University of Michigan Athletics Ticket Office with your name, email address, daytime phone number and requested number of tickets (limit of 4). If tickets become available later, fans will be removed from the waiting list on a first-come first-served basis.
