More Losses for the WCHA
CHN Staff Report
Already besieged with another season of losses, the WCHA is losing more players.
North Dakota junior-to-be defenseman Corey Fienhage has left the school, and signed with the Kamloops Blazers of the WCHA.
At 6-foot-3, Fienhage believed he was better suited for major junior. With the Sioux last season, he had two assists in 30 games, and was expected to have to battle for playing time next season.
He joins David Toews in leaving North Dakota for the WHL. Toews had 4 goals and 15 points in 32 games last season, but was a scratch in games down the stretch.
Meanwhile, according to the Western College Hockey Blog, Minnesota State's Tyler Pitlick is expected to jump to Medicine Hat of the WHL, too. That's a much bigger loss for the Mavericks than the Sioux's two losses. As a freshman last season, Pitlick had 11 goals and 19 points in 38 games.
