RIT Loses Tanev to NHL
CHN Staff Report
ROCHESTER, N.Y. RIT got a taste of competing with the big boys when it made a Cinderella run to the Frozen Four in April, and now it gets to feel what it's like to be a big-time team in negative ways as well.
Tigers' freshman defenseman Chris Tanev has decided to leave school early to sign a three-year entry-level NHL deal with the Vancouver Canucks.
Tanev led the nation in plus-minus last season with a plus-34. He also had 10 goals, 28 points and just 4 penalty minutes while playing all 41 games. RIT defeated Denver and New Hampshire in the NCAAs to make the Frozen Four in Detroit, where it was defeated by Wisconsin.
Tanev, 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, was a 20-year old freshman last season, hailing from Toronto.
