Early Tests: Teams Ready to Break the Ice
by Avash Kalra/Staff Writer
The 2010-11 college hockey campaign officially began on Saturday, with over 6,000 fans on hand to watch the hometown Michigan Wolverines take on Mercyhurst. Eighty shots, 8 goals, and a dramatic third period comeback later, and the first game of the college hockey season was in the books.
Now, it's time for everyone else to join in on the fun.
This month, over 1,400 players on 57 teams begin a long season that, for an elite few, will culminate at the 2011 Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn. For now though, from Michigan to Missouri, from Alaska to Nebraska, a slate of four early-season four-team showcases highlights the opening weekend of the college hockey season.
Here's a look at each.
Alaska Goal Rush (Fairbanks, AK)
This early season showcase features Alaska, Alaska-Anchorage, Union, and Colorado College. Check back to CHN next week for a preview of the Alaska Goal Rush next week.
The Goal Rush games will be played during the Oct. 15-16 weekend.
