Clarkson Hiring Cornell Assistant Casey Jones
CHN Staff Report
Cornell assistant Casey Jones will be the next Clarkson head coach, the Watertown (N.Y.) Daily Times is reporting.
Jones beat out Ron Rolston, the U.S. Under-18 team coach who was also recently passed over after interviewing for the Princeton job.
Jones, a 1990 Cornell graduate, was an assistant at Clarkson from 1993-95. He then spent 13 years as an assistant coach at Ohio State, before leaving to go back to his alma mater two years ago.
Rolston, a former assistant at Lake Superior State, Boston College and Clarkson over the years, has interviewed for a number of openings in recent years, but has come up empty.
Jones replaces George Roll, who was fired in early May after eight years.
Reportedly, Clarkson offered the job to former star Craig Conroy first, before interviewing anyone. Conroy just finished a lengthy NHL career, and is a North Country native.
