Trio of Juniors Leave for the Pros
CHN Staff Report
A trio of juniors continued the annual parade of players leaving early, signing pro deals today.
Reilly Smith of Miami and Alex Chiasson of Boston University both signed with the Dallas Stars, and Drew Shore signed with Florida. All three had been drafted by the respective teams.
Smith, a Hobey Baker Award finalist, was a third-round pick of Dallas in the 2009 NHL Draft. He had 30 goals this season, following up last year's 28-goal campaign, and was particularly hot down the stretch.
Chiasson, who had the overtime game winner in Game 3 of BU's quarterfinal playoff series with New Hampshire, helped lead the Terriers following the loss of three key players mid-season. He had 15 goals and 46 points, adding to seasons of 34 and 19 the last two years. Chiasson was a second-round pick of Dallas, just before Smith in 2009.
Shore leaves behind his brother Nick on the Denver roster, and another brother comes in next season as a freshman. He was drafted by Florida in the second round in 2009. A Denver native, Shore had 22 goals and 53 points this season, and had 23-23—46 as a sophomore.
