College Hockey Inc. Gets New Structure
CHN Staff Report
The new governing structure for College Hockey Inc. is officially in place.
As first reported by CHN in April, College Hockey Inc.'s structure was to change in the aftermath of the departure of executive director Paul Kelly, a move that rankled many in the coaching community.
After a heated few days at the coach's convention in Naples, and the good discussion that arose, it was agreed that a new structure would be formed.
Instead of the five conference commissioners being in charge of CHInc., one more representative from each conference will be part of the group. That person can be an athletic department official of one of the schools, or a coach.
The five new members are North Dakota head coach Dave Hakstol (WCHA), Bowling Green associate athletic director Jim Elsasser (CCHA), Vermont athletic director Bob Corran (Hockey East), RPI athletic director Jim Knowlton (ECAC) and Canisius head coach Dave Smith (Atlantic Hockey).
Meanwhile, five people were interviewed for the open director position, and the board expects to make a hire soon. Kelly's assistant, Nate Ewell, has been acting as the interim director since Kelly's departure in February.
