NHL Lockout Forces GLI Back Inside
CHN Staff Report
As the National Hockey League lockout continues, the league announced the cancellation of the Winter Classic today. For college hockey, that means the Great Lakes Invitational, which was moved outside to the Detroit Tigers' Comerica Park as part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival, will be moved back to its traditional location, Joe Louis Arena.
The games were also moved from Dec. 27-28 to Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 29-30.
St. Cloud State was originally the fourth team scheduled to be in this year's 48th GLI, but was replaced with Western Michigan to give it an all-Michigan flavor when the outdoor idea came into place.
Western Michigan will remain part of tournament, and will face Michigan State in the early game, 3:30 p.m. Michigan Tech and Michigan will face off at 7 p.m.
