CHN Staff Report
BOSTON Massachusetts-Lowell and Boston College tied for first in Hockey East's preseason poll, though Lowell received more first-place votes. It's the sixth straight year that BC was selected by league coaches to place first.
The River Hawks are coming off their first Hockey East regular-season and tournament championships, and Frozen Four appearance.
New Hampshire and Notre Dame also were chosen in a tie for third with 84 points apiece, followed by Providence
(79 pts.) and Boston University (67).
Hockey East expands to 11 teams this season with the introduction of Notre Dame. Next season, the league goes to 12 when Connecticut joins.
Also announced at Tuesday's Media Day, the league named Dan Parkhurst winner of this year's Media Award.
Parkhurst, who will again call UNH hockey games on television and radio for 2013-14, will also call select games for NBC Sports Network. In addition to his broadcasting work, the 2013-14 season will mark Parkhurst’s 17th year as Hockey East’s website designer and coordinator. Parkhurst, a 1993 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, assists in the league’s public relations efforts with multimedia solutions, as well as with day-to-day online efforts and game-night updates. During the 1997-98 season he called the Hockey East Online Game of the Week, one of the first online broadcasts of college hockey on the internet.
