Gillies Leaves Game Against UNH

CHN Staff Report

Providence College goaltender Jon Gillies left Friday night's game against New Hampshire in the second period after suffering an apparently left leg injury.

Gillies, who is also projected to be the starting goaltender for Team USA at next month's World Junior Championship, is 8-1-1 on the season with a 1.67 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage.

Freshman Nick Ellis will take over for the Calgary Flames' third-round pick in the interim. In a pair of games this season, Ellis is 1-1-0 with a 3.74 goals-against average and a .828 save percentage.

According to his Twitter account late Friday, Gillies said the injury "shouldn't be serious."

***Update***

Mark Divver of the Providence Journal reports on Saturday night that Gillies is expected to start against UNH, meaning he will not miss a start due to the injury.
