Bowling Green held Michigan Tech scoreless over the final two periods to win 2-1 and take a quarterfinal series lead.
Bryce Williamson and Ryan Carpenter scored first-period goals. Carpenter's came just 1:40 after Tech had tied it.
"Our execution was pretty good, still a little too loose with pucks sometimes," BGSU coach Chris Bergeron said. "Our defense played well. They kept the game simple, got the puck out when they were supposed to."
Despite a physical game, there were just four minor penalties called.
"Those were two teams going as hard as they could," Bergeron said. "I know these are college kids, but that was a man's game out there in terms of stick battles and physical battles, and I think it was a huge game for us to get."
Minnesota State extended its unbeaten streak to 10 with a 3-2 win over Northern Michigan. The Mavericks led 3-0 at one point, but held off NMU over the final 16 1/2 minutes.
The Mavericks are now 15-1-1 at home this season.
"I know we're going to have to be better (Saturday)," MSU coach Mike Hastings said. "But at this time it's about finding a way to win a game, and we won a game tonight. We have to emphasize the positives out of that."

Justin Buzzeo and Kyle Schempp scored twice each as Ferris State rolled to an 8-0 win over Bemidji State in Game 1.
It was a far cry from the other three conferences where 1 seeds played 8 seeds in quarterfinals Friday. In Hockey East and the NCHC, the 8 seed won, while in Atlantic Hockey, the 8 seed went to overtime before losing.
But that was not the case in Big Rapids, where Bemidji seemed to have little in the tank one week after ekeing out the 8th seed over Lake Superior State.

Alaska-Anchorage won a back-and-forth affair with Alaska, 2-1, to force Game 3 of that series.
