Guertler Leaves Minnesota for OHL

CHN Staff Report

Minnesota coach Don Lucia has released forward Gabe Guertler from the program, the school announced today. Guertler was to be a sophomore this upcoming season.

The release came as Guertler was in the process of leaving to sign with the OHL's Soo Greyhounds.

“I’m really excited to be a part of the Soo program,” Guertler said in a statement. “I think it’s a great opportunity for me to get better as a player. The Soo is a great program and are a top-tier team in OHL. I look forward to getting started.”

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native played 24 games for the Gophers last season, scoring two goals and five points.

Guertler scored 31 goals in his final season of junior, playing for Fargo in the USHL, but was slow to adjust to the NCAA level.
