2009-11-16 ... Yale forward Brian O’Neill, was named ECAC Player of the Week after helping the No. 9-ranked Bulldogs take three points in conference play last weekend. O’Neill had a goal and two assists in Yale’s 4-2 win at home over No. 3 Cornell last Friday. He added a goal and an assist in a 3-3 OT tie with Colgate the following night. His Saturday night helper highlighted one of the best plays of the young Yale season. O’Neill grabbed a loose puck near the Yale blueline, quickly turned and sent a perfect lead pass across the Colgate blueline to teammate Sean Backman. His linemate went in alone to score in Yale’s two-goal comeback tie.
2009-11-16 ... Air Force senior goaltender Andrew Volkening was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Goalie of the Week. Volkening allowed just two goals in two games as Air Force earned a 1-0 win and a 2-2 tie at Holy Cross. He posted a 0.96 goals-against average and a .966 saves percentage. He stopped all 29 shots he faced on Friday for his second consecutive shutout and the 13th of his career, a school record. One of his 29 stops was a glove save as time expired in the third period.
2009-11-10 ... Atlantic Hockey Assoc. has annouced it weekly award winners. Player of the Week: Jordan Cyr, Holy Cross; Goaltender of the Week: Jared DeMichiel, RIT; and Rookie of the Week: Jeff Larson, Connecticut.
2009-11-10 ... Having posted a career-high 45 saves in Saturday’s win at Wisconsin, Minnesota junior goaltender Alex Kangas has been named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week.
2009-11-10 ... North Dakota junior forward Evan Trupp has been named Red Baron WCHA Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his three-goal series in UND’s sweep last weekend at Michigan Tech. Trupp scored one goal in UND’s 4-2 win over the Huskies on Friday night, then followed with a two-goal effort – including the game-winner – in Saturday’s 4-1 victory. Trupp recorded seven shots on goal in the series and recorded a plus-2 rating.
2009-11-06 ... Denver junior goaltender Marc Cheverie is the Hockey Commissioners’ Association National Division I Player of the Month for October. Cheverie, who was injured in the last game of the month and may not return for six weeks, posted a 4-0-0 record with a .959 save percentage and 1.27 goals-against average for the Pioneers. In addition, he registered 223:51 consecutive shutout minutes to break Peter Mannino's school record of 208:42 set in 2005. During the streak, Cheverie claimed a pair of 3-0 victories over Minnesota to become the first goaltender to shut out the Golden Gophers in consecutive games. ... Derek Grant, a freshman forward at Michigan State, has been named the HCA National Rookie of the Month for October. Grant began the season on a six-game scoring streak and ranks first among CCHA freshmen with 10 points, including four goals and six assists.
2009-11-05 ... Dan Muse, an assistant at Sacred Heart in 2008-09, has been named assistant coach at Yale. There was an opening when long-time assistant coach C.J. Marottolo took the head coaching position at Sacred Heart just before the start of this season. Muse, a 2005 Stonehill College graduate, was also an assistant at D-III Williams from 2007-2008 and at Milton (Mass.) Academy from 2005-2007.
