2009-01-20 ... Wyatt Russell, backup goaltender for Alabama-Huntsville, has left UAH to play for a team in Germany. Russell is the son of actors Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.

2009-01-20 ... Viktor Stålberg was named the Hockey East Player of the Week. The Vermont junior had three goals and four points over the weekend in a two-game split at No. 3 Northeastern. He had 15 shots on goal, including 10 in a 4-2 win over the Huskies on Saturday.

2009-01-20 ... Coming off a weekend sweep over St. Cloud State, Minnesota’s Mike Hoeffel and Aaron Ness were both honored with WCHA weekly awards. Hoeffel was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week, while Ness earned Rookie of the Week honors. Hoeffel had three goals and one assist in the weekend series. In Saturday’s 8-6 win, he scored two goals, including the game-winner in the third period. Ness finished with four assists in the series, including a season-high three assists in Saturday’s win. The league’s Defensive Player of the Week two weeks ago, Ness helped spark the Gophers’ national-best penalty killing unit that held St. Cloud State to 2-for-15 on the power play.

2009-01-13 ... Wisconsin junior assistant captain Jamie McBain has been named WCHA co-Offensive Player of the Week. McBain, the nation's leading scorer among defensemen, shares the honor with North Dakota's Ryan Duncan. The nation's top-scoring blueliner this season with 28 points, McBain's two assists last Friday came on a game-tying power-play goal and a third period game-winner.

2009-01-13 ... North Dakota senior forward Ryan Duncan has been named WCHA Co-Offensive Player of the Week and freshman forward Jason Gregoire has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week for their roles in UND’s WCHA sweep of third-ranked Minnesota last weekend in Grand Forks.

2009-01-13 ... The CCHA named Notre Dame defenseman Kyle Lawson and goaltender Jordan Pearce the CCHA’s defensive player and goaltender of the week, respectively. The Notre Dame duo was instrumental in back-to-back shutout wins for the Irish over Alaska by 2-0 and 3-0 scores. Lawson was plus-3 on the weekend and assisted on three of the team’s five goals in the series. Pearce stopped all 38 shots he faced in the two contests to record his third and fourth shutouts of the season while running his current shutout streak to 161:30 over the last three games.
