2009-02-17 ... Forward Erik Condra and defenseman Kyle Lawson were selected as the CCHA’s offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively. The Notre Dame duo was instrumental in back-to-back wins for the Irish over Northern Michigan. Condra paced the Notre Dame attack with two goals and five assists for seven points, while Lawson was scoring once (a game winner) while chipping in four assists.
2009-02-17 ... Senior forward Patrick Brosnihan was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week after netting two big goals on the road last weekend in a pair of wins for No. 7 Yale. Brosnihan, who has five goals and seven points this year, scored goals in both games last weekend, including the game-winner against RPI.
2009-02-17 ... Freshman goalie Brad Eidsness has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week, and junior forward Chris VandeVelde has been named WCHA Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Both helped North Dakota sweep Minnesota State last weekend.
2009-02-17 ... Minnesota forward Jay Barriball was selected the WCHA co-Offensive Player of the Week for his three-point weekend in the Gophers’ series against Alaska Anchorage. Barriball, a junior from Prior Lake, Minn., had two goals and one assist as the Gophers had a tie and a win against the Seawolves.
2009-02-17 ... Garrett Raboin, a junior defenseman and team captain for St. Cloud State, was named WCHA Defensive Player of the week for his efforts in a two-game sweep over visiting Michigan Tech last weekend. A 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior from Detroit Lakes, Minn., Raboin assisted on teammate Ryan Lasch’s game-winning goal in the third period of Friday's game, then Saturday evening, Raboin scored the game-winning goal and set up another for a three-point series. In addition, he fired eight shots on goal and anchored an SCSU defense that allowed just two even-strength goals and a total of 45 shots on goal on the weekend.
2009-02-16 ... North Dakota sophomore defenseman Derrick LaPoint, who sustained a broken leg Saturday night against Minnesota State, underwent successful surgery Sunday morning at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks and is out for the remainder of the season. LaPoint, a native of Eau Claire, Wis., had a goal and four assists in 32 games this season. In 63 career games, LaPoint has three goals and nine assists for 12 points. He was selected by the Florida Panthers in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2006 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
2009-02-11 ... Minnesota freshman Grant Scott has decided to leave school and play in the United States Hockey League. Scott, a highly-touted recruit, had played in just one game this season. "He wanted to play," coach Don Lucia told Minnesota Daily.
2009-02-06 ... North Dakota forward Jason Gregoire has been named the Hockey Commissioner’s Association (HCA) National Division I Rookie of the Month for January. Gregoire collected 10 points during 10 January games, including a team-leading six goals, in leading the 13th-ranked Fighting Sioux to a 7-1-2 record. The Winninpeg, Manitoba, native, opened the month with a season-long five-game point streak and enjoyed three multi-point games.
2009-02-06 ... St. Cloud State junior forward Ryan Lasch, who had 14 points in eight games, has been named the Hockey Commissioners’ Association National Division I Player of the Month for January. Lasch, averaging 1.75 points-per-game in January, led the Huskies to a 4-3-1 record against four nationally ranked teams. His best performance of the month came on Jan. 17 when he fired a hat trick and added an assist in a game against Minnesota. A week earlier, the 2008 Hobey Baker Finalist recorded a three-point night (1-2-3) in a 6-3 victory over Minnesota-Duluth.
2009-02-03 ... Vermont junior Viktor Stålberg has been named the Hockey East Player of the Month. Stålberg had eight goals and 12 points in January as he led the seventh-ranked Catamounts to a 5-2-2 month. Stålberg becomes the first UVM player to win a monthly award this season.
2009-02-03 ... Forward Greg Squires of Western Michigan has been named the CCHA Rookie of the Month for January. Squires notched eight points in 10 games in the month and moved into a tie for seventh in scoring among CCHA rookies. He recorded a point in seven of 10 games including five straight games with an assist.
2009-02-03 ... Sophomore forward Mark Olver of Northern Michigan has been named the CCHA Player of the Month for January. Olver, a 2008 draft pick of Colorado, averaged one-and-a-half points-per game tying him for the CCHA lead in points and placing eighth in the country for January. The Northern Michigan sophomore was named CCHA Offensive Player of the Week for his 2-2-4 line at Wisconsin on Jan. 2 and 3. Olver ended the month strongly with five points (1-4-5) in a Jan. 30-31 series against Western Michigan.
