2009-07-31 ... Canisius assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the past four years, Mike Mankowski, will leave the program for the same position at Bowling Green. “The opportunity at Bowling Green is an exciting one for me,” Mankowski said. “The school is 20 minutes from where I grew up and where my family is from. It is a great opportunity to go home and return the program back to the national forefront.”
2009-07-28 ... Former Brown coach Herb Hammond died at age 69, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Hammond won 284 games as a head coach in college with three different schools, two of them -- Plattsburgh and Oswego -- at the Division III level, and then later at Brown from 1983-89. He subsequently became a scout in the NHL for 17 seasons.
2009-07-18 ... Grant Potulny, who was named a volunteer assistant coach in May, has been elevated to a full-time position following a national search process. In addition, Justin Johnson has been named the team’s volunteer goaltending coach. Both were members of Minnesota’s national championship teams in 2002 and 2003 with Potulny serving as a team captain each year. The moves were necessitated by the departure of Mike Hastings, who went to join Dean Blais on Nebraska-Omaha staff.
